Laser engraving on wood

How an engraving is created

Laser engraving can be performed on a wide range of materials such as wood, metal, glass, slate, leather, etc.

But how is an engraving created? First of all, the chosen design is processed. Whatever it may be, it must be adapted with graphic characteristics that help the laser software to best interpret what we want to achieve. The laser interprets colours in this way: everything that is BLACK is engraved, WHITE is not. If we want to achieve shades, we will work with the grey scale in this way: if the colour tends towards light grey, the engraving will be less marked and vice versa.

In practice, to give an example, we lighten areas that are excessively dark to avoid creating an overly ‘burnt’ or dark effect, or we increase the thickness of certain strokes to highlight features that would otherwise be understated.

All this requires a lot of testing to ensure that the desired effect is achieved!
